The Table Nazar

It doesn't matter if you're hosting a cozy dinner for three or a party for twenty-five—the Eye is always ready to strike. While this amulet is easy to make, it isn't something you wear; it's meant to be placed on a table or other hard surface and works to absorb or deflect the Eye in your home.

You will need:

A blue plate (if you don't have one, take a white paper plate and color it blue with paint or marker)

Salt

One clove of garlic

One peppercorn

Before your guests arrive, set the blue plate down on your counter. Slowly pour a ring of salt around the middle of the plate. Place the clove of garlic inside the salt circle. Gently press the peppercorn into the clove of garlic, making sure not to damage the clove. Don't waste time trying to make it look perfect—imperfection is fine.

What kind of event are you hosting? Spend a minute or two thinking about the person or persons who will be sitting at your dinner table, lounging in your living room or on your deck, or traipsing through several rooms of your home. Are any of your imminent guests the envying type? Are any of your friends bringing dates you haven't met yet? Strangers in the house are always a gamble. But instead of worrying, hold your hands above the plate and chant the following incantation: Eye to eye, and I to Eye, in this scene all is seen. Spirit wakes and envy breaks.

Place the plate out of eyeshot. Don't hide it in a cabinet or drawer, but don't set it down in the middle of your dinner table either. Use discretion. Find a good place for the plate and let it work its magic. When your guests have left, go to the plate and study it closely. Are there any hairline cracks in the garlic clove? Did the peppercorn fall out of the clove? Is there a break in the ring of salt?

If you find any oddities that weren't there when you set the plate down, the table nazar amulet absorbed the hit. Pour the entire contents of the plate into a trash bag and take it outside. If you don't find any unusual signs in the plate, it's safe to dispose of its contents in a trash bin inside your home. Make this amulet whenever you have guests in your home.
